5 Must See East Coast Beaches

The eastern USA has more than 3,000 kilometers of Atlantic Ocean shoreline. It has a wide range of beaches, from rough, rocky ones to soft, sandy ones.
Here are five beautiful spots on the East Coast that you should check out.

The town of Cape May, NJ
Cape May is one of the oldest tourist spots in the United States. Victorian homes from the 1800s look out over a sandy beach. It’s at the southeastern tip of New Jersey and has been welcoming people from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (150 kilometers away), New York City, New York (254 kilometers away), and other places for more than two hundred years. The cute beach getaway is set on a few stretches of sweet sand. Look for “Cape May diamonds,” which are clear quartz rocks that come ashore from the Delaware River nearby. Bird watchers should keep an eye out for some of the more than 400 kinds of birds that live here.

The Outer Banks in North Carolina

The Wright Brothers flew the first airplane in 1903 on an empty beach close to the North Carolina beach town of Kitty Hawk. After more than a hundred years, Kitty Hawk and the other towns along the Outer Banks, a 230-kilometer stretch of barrier islands, have become well-loved holiday spots.

A lot of people, mostly from the Southeast and Northeast, come to the beaches to relax in the summer and during spring break in March and April. The beaches are quiet and have running sea grass. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse are two famous lighthouses that watch over the water.

For a taste of local cuisine, go to the Harbor House Seafood Market. It is a family-run business whose owners have been fishing for decades. Choose one of their ready-made meals to eat, like their rich shrimp and crab tacos or any of their seasonal seafood soups.

Note: In the Outer Banks, having a car is helpful. An airport close lets you rent one. The nearest airport is Norfolk International Airport in Virginia, which is a 90-minute drive away.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

For many years, people from Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia have flocked to Rehoboth Beach, which is roughly 182 kilometres southeast of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland. Rehoboth’s population surges from 1,400 to over 25,000 each summer, so book your accommodations well in advance.

Walking the broad seaside boardwalk to the well-known Dolles Candyland, which is famous for its saltwater taffy, or to the Ice Cream Store, where you can select from over 70 flavours, are popular activities.

Virginia Beach, VA

Virginia Beach is full of fun things to do. In the summer, people like to go parasailing and ride water bikes. The city also hosts the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships and the North American Sand Soccer Championships every year.

Virginia Beach is at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, about 30 kilometers southeast of Norfolk International Airport in Virginia. It has a lot to offer visitors who want to do things that don’t take as much effort. From spring to fall, the Neptune Festival holds events that honor the city’s history as a seaside resort. The biggest event there is Boardwalk Weekend, which starts on the last Friday of September and has outdoor music, parades, and local wines. Every year, it brings in more than 400,000 people. These are part of a food scene that is growing. The Hub is a food truck park at Eighth Street and Atlantic Avenue that you should check out in the summer.

In Florida, Ponte Vedra Beach

Ponte Vedra Beach is a place in north Florida known for outdoor sports. It is about 35 kilometers southeast of downtown Jacksonville. Along the coast, vendors make it easy to wakeboard, waterski, and surf. In May, the PGA Players golf event is held at Ponte Vedra Beach.

The natural beauty of Florida shows through here too. The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve is a great place to see Florida’s diverse wildlife and enjoy the state’s natural beauty. You can rent a boat and look for manatees, bald eagles, and Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.
