Blount Country and Townsend Tennessee
To unwind and unwind for a few days, head to Townsend, Tennessee, also known as “the Peaceful Side of the Smokies.”
Townsend, in eastern Tennessee, is a place where the splendor of nature is seen. Townsend is located in East Tennessee, on the brink of the Great Smoky Mountains, and is less than an hour’s drive south of Knoxville. Additionally, the communities of Alcoa and Maryville are part of Blount (pronounced “Blunt”) County, which provides entertainment and leisure for the whole family.
Ancient Cades Cove
Cades Cove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is an excellent site to begin your journey. Situated in a verdant valley with breathtaking surroundings, Cades Cove is home to horses that graze on fields blooming with yellow flowers. Ride the 17-kilometer, one-way loop road that circles the Cove and passes by rebuilt homes from the 18th and 19th centuries after stopping at the tourist center to rent a bicycle.
People lived at Cades Cove before it was included in a national park. A few people remained in the Cove even after it was declared a national park in 1934, and the last one to leave was in 1999. There are currently around 80 ancient homes in the park, many of which were built of logs originally.
Visit the immaculately refurbished homes, granaries, and churches to gain a wonderful understanding of the lifestyles of the area’s first settlers. There is a lot of wildlife in this area. Watch out for raccoons, deer, wild hogs, wild turkeys, and black bears.
The Great Smoky Mountains Historical Site
Visit the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend, which is close by and has numerous displays honoring the area’s rich history, after enjoying a delectable lunch at Barbob’s Burgermaster Drive-in. Take a tour of the historic village there to get a taste of early 1900s Appalachian life. Exhibits showcasing Native American relics within the center offer an insight into the way of life of the Cherokee people. The museum’s outdoor space, which features eleven historically significant homes that have been meticulously restored and interactive displays, is particularly striking.

Outstanding Caverns at Tuckaleechee
Proceed to Tuckaleechee Caverns later in the day. The caverns are thought to be between 20 and 30 million years old, having been dug over tens of thousands of years ago. The caverns, dubbed the “Greatest Site Under the Smokies,” are a must-visit. See millions of years-old rock formations as you travel 1.5 kilometers throughout the trip. The so-called Big Room is the tour’s high point. One of the largest cave rooms in the world is formed by 45-meter-high cave walls and 7-meter-tall stalagmites. Amazingly beautiful!
