Discovery of places
You could spend all day looking at this famous museum
Discovery of places. The Field Museum is a world-famous natural history museum in the famous and exciting city of Chicago, Illinois. There is a lot to see and do there, including going to the Galapagos, exploring a room full of sparkling gemstones, going into a mud hut, and being enchanted by the masks from the Pacific Islands. With its amazing collection of artifacts and temporary and traveling exhibits, the Field Museum shows a wide range of habitats, cultures, plants, and animals. You can learn about them in its beautiful and roomy rooms. Here is a useful guide to getting around this one-of-a-kind school and research center.
Finding out about places
The Field Museum is the perfect place for SUE, the biggest Tyrannosaurus skeleton that we know of so far. SUE is 12 meters long and 4 meters high, and she is happy to show off a fake skull with 58 sharp teeth. Her real skull, which weighs more than 270 kilograms, is on display in the alcove above this room. The skeleton is surprisingly well preserved, making it the star of the museum. However, there are many other interesting dioramas and exhibits on the site as well. You can see hyenas in the Hall of Asian Mammals or mummies in the Inside Ancient Egypt area. Along the Nature Walk, you can look at the plants and animals. You can learn about how people lived in a Maori common house or meet people from old American civilizations in the “Ancient Americas” section.
The story of how life began on Earth
Go see the Evolving Planet exhibit, which shows how life on Earth has changed over four billion years. As you make your way to the Dinosaur Hall, you will see skeletons of sloths, monkeys, and creatures from other times. In this room, you can look at almost all of the main types of dinosaurs. This part of the museum has animated films, hands-on exhibits, recreated seascapes, and a huge collection of fossils. You can get close to history by doing things.
The place for science
The Field Museum is more than just a collection and exhibit-heavy natural history museum. It is also a full-fledged research center where scientists from all over the world work together to find new things. You can see some of the most interesting items from the museum’s 30 million collection in the Grainger Science Hub. There are scientists around who are happy to talk to you and show you their work. The Discovery Squad is a group of people who will walk with you through the museum, show you different specimens on carts, and give you ideas for study projects to get you thinking like a scientist. You can find out about DNA, and local wildlife, try to solve a crime, or look at some of the world’s oldest rocks. The Field Museum has everything you could want.
