Flagstaff, Arizona – Unique History and Rugged Nature

Snowboarders take a break

Flagstaff

This is the “City of 7 Wonders” in Northern Arizona, and it’s a great place to go on vacation any time of the year.

Flagstaff, Arizona. It is famous for its “7 Wonders,” but the beautiful natural scenery and fun things to do outside are just the beginning. You can take a walk through historic downtown and find hip restaurants, craft breweries, and art galleries that show off the area’s arts scene. In the evening, bars all over the city have live music and a busy nightlife. On clear, nights, you can look at the stars.

Spend all year outside
Flagstaff is 2 km above sea level, so the summers are warm and the winters are snowy. It is one of the few places in the Southwest where you can enjoy outdoor activities in all four seasons. During the summer, gondola rides, meals at sunset, and live music in the mountains’ beautiful pine forests are all fun things to do. In the winter, this mountain is proud to be home to Arizona Snowbowl, the largest ski resort in the Southwest. For more than eighty years, families and tourists have come to Arizona Snowbowl to learn how to ski and snowboard. Arizona Nordic Village is just a few miles north and has beautiful cross-country skiing and snow-biking trails. If you want to stay the night, you can do so in one of their unique yurts. Enjoy the chance to see the breathtaking Grand Canyon National Park, the interesting cultural sites of Wupatki and Walnut Canyon National Monuments, and the unique earthquake features of the Sunset Crater Volcano. In Flagstaff, you can climb Arizona’s tallest mountain, Humphreys Peak, and then go to Coconino National Forest to hike or ride your bike on hundreds of kilometers of tracks.

A Beautiful Desert City
MSN.com named downtown Flagstaff as one of the ten most charming historic downtowns in the United States. It has just as many fun things to do as the nature attractions nearby. More than 25 events happen here every year, ranging from folk music shows and Celtic celebrations to food, wine, and theater festivals. Flagstaff was named Arizona’s Craft Beer Town in 2018. There are many friendly places to grab a local beer, from hip microbreweries to community centers. Along the Flagstaff Brewery Trail, you can see all of them. If you get enough “stamps” from participating beers on your “passport,” you’ll get a gift to remember the event.

From US Route 66 to Space
Flagstaff is a town with a lot of history. It is great at everything from friendly locals to making finds about life in other galaxies. The original route of the famous highway Route 66 goes right through the middle of town. Everywhere you look, you can still feel the old-fashioned Americana vibes. Walk this Talk gives you the chance to learn about the past of the town through fun audio logs and secrets that are hidden in murals and street signs. If you’re interested in science, you should go to Lowell Observatory. That’s where Pluto was found in 1930, and every February, the town celebrates its scientific history at the I Heart Pluto Festival. Flagstaff was named the world’s first Dark Skies City in 2001. On clear nights, you can use the same binoculars that scientists used to map the moon to see a beautiful view of the universe. Visit the Museum of Northern Arizona to learn more about Flagstaff’s past. There are displays honoring the many Native American groups that have lived in Arizona, such as the Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni.
