Marquette is the perfect getaway for breathtaking outdoor experiences

Situated in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on the wooded edges of Lake Superior, Marquette is a year-round vacation spot that provides year-round recreational pursuits and cultural events. Autumns are warm and pleasant, accentuated by colorful foliage and hot cups of chocolate; summers are mild and warm, ideal for hiking, bicycling, fishing, and waterfall chasing. Even though winters are cold, they provide snow-covered landscapes that are ideal for activities like fat tire biking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and snowshoeing. Marquette’s vast outdoors are its greatest feature. There’s enough to do outside all year round. Enjoy the fresh powder skiing at Marquette Mountain Resort or take a snowshoe trip along Presque Isle Park’s tranquil pathways during the winter. Hike to some of the best waterfalls in the area, like Yellow Dog Falls and Morgan Falls, as the weather warms up in the spring. Hike Thomas Rock or Mt. Marquette in the summer to burn off some calories (both have equally beautiful fall views). Take a dip in one of the neighboring lakes to cool off, or just kick back on Little Presque Beach’s sand.

Beautiful 19th-century lighthouses on Lake Superior can be seen in the Marquette area, and the public can take guided tours of a few of these lighthouses. Constructed in 1853, the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse is a picturesque historical landmark with a vivid red color that has protected sailors approaching the city of Marquette for many years. A marine museum and breathtaking views of Lake Superior are available for you to enjoy during your visit. But Marquette has more to offer history buffs than that: All year long, the Marquette Regional History Center has a variety of exhibits that are engaging for the whole family.

 

Be Moved by the Arts

Marquette is also very much influenced by the arts and culture. Make the most of your stay by visiting one of the local artistic hotspots, whether you choose to attend a play, gallery, or live music performance. Take in any of the national or international art exhibitions hosted by Northern Michigan University’s DeVos Art Museum, or enjoy an evening performance by the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. Purchase tickets for a live stage production, play, or musical at Lake Superior Theatre for a wholly local experience. Located inside a disused boathouse, this hidden gem offers a distinctive theatrical experience. Additionally, you can attend talks, musical concerts, and art exhibits at the Marquette Arts & Culture Center, which is housed inside the Peter White Public Library.
