San Antonio

Explore, eat, and shop in the Alamo’s historic city.
Once a frontier town in the Wild West, San Antonio is now a metropolitan metropolis with all the conveniences of a modern city. San Antonio, one of the best places to shop in the country, has the biggest Mexican market in the United States in addition to elegant boutiques and several malls. The city is renowned for its picturesque River Walk, which facilitates easy navigation of the downtown area. The River Walk’s shaded pathways connect hundreds of stores, eateries, lodging options, historical sites, museums, and attractions along its more than 24 km length. Many of the city’s yearly festivals and events, which feature cuisine, wine, live music, and other attractions, are held there as well.

San Antonio is rich in history, the arts, and delicious food. Its distinct culture is a result of its American, Spanish, and German ancestry. Head north along the River Walk to discover museums brimming with treasures ranging from Picassos to Western artifacts, as well as the Pearl, a buzzing hub for dining and shopping. The River Walk leads to four Spanish missions to the south, which still provide some of the greatest places for bird watching in the area and were originally used as shelter by pioneers. The Alamo, located in the center of downtown San Antonio, is arguably the most famous of all the missions. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization has designated the Missions and the Alamo as World Heritage Sites (UNESCO).

Five theme parks, more than 50 golf courses, one of the biggest zoos in the United States, the largest caves in Texas, and hiking and bicycling trails that extend into the Texas Hill Country—a region rapidly becoming known for its wineries—are all located not far from downtown. All things considered, San Antonio is a remarkable city with an abundance of things to do. Ask any of the welcoming residents for advice if you need it.
