Telluride is a secret gem in the Rockies. It is in a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. More than any other place in the state, the area is surrounded by 4,200-meter peaks. Telluride was founded in the late 1800s as a mining town. It has a lot of history and some of the most beautiful scenery in Colorado. Telluride and Mountain Village, which is right next door, are connected by a free gondola. For newbies, Ute Park and The Meadows are the best places to start because they have gentle, open slopes. Most places to stay are ski-in/ski-out or just a short walk from the slopes, so you don’t even need a car.
