Bozeman, which is known as the “Queen City of the Rockies,” is both surprisingly rural and surprisingly elegant. Bozeman is one of those rare Western cities that could feel remote but doesn’t. It’s close to Yellowstone National Park, has a hot spring, and is becoming known as a tech hub. Adventures outside are different in this area every season. From whitewater rafting to skiing to biking on a dozen trails, there are always new ways to see the rough scenery. The city’s rich history can be seen in its historic neighborhoods, museums, and nearby ghost towns. Its future can be seen in its thriving food scene.
Every Season of the Great Outdoors
Because Bozeman is close to many mountains, woods, and lakes, there are lots of outdoor activities to choose from. The Custer Gallatin National Forest is a big forest area close to Yellowstone National Park. You can hike, climb mountains, fish in the lakes, and explore plateaus, basins, canyons, and valleys for fun when you’re not taking pictures of bears, elk, deer, and other animals. Skiers and snowboarders can go to Big Sky Resort, which is the biggest resort of its kind in the United States, just 70 kilometers away, and blast through powder in the winter. In the summer, you can go zip-lining, whitewater rafting, or horseback riding.
Learn about history.
History from 4 billion years ago is broken down at Montana State University’s Museum of the Rockies. The museum focuses on geology, Native American history, and Montana history. You can learn about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and see a star show in the Taylor Planetarium. There is also a large fossil collection. Visit the museum’s living history farm to learn what it was like to be a homesteader. The Gallatin History Museum is a great place to learn more about the culture of the area. People will be amazed at the American Computer & Robotics Museum, which brings the history of computers, communications, AI, and robots to life.
Seeing the City
Check out Bozeman’s famous areas. There are 29 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places in the South Tracy/South Black Avenue Historic District. In Bon Ton, the homes show off design from the early 20th century. Four distilleries and about the same number of breweries in the area offer trips and tastings. The Grizzly Wolf Discovery Center is a safe place to meet and learn about these scary animals, as well as gray wolves. Take a hot air balloon ride over Bozeman or swim in the hot springs for some fun and relaxation.
