South Carolina

Explore South Carolina, a culinary, historical, and charming paradise.
South Carolina provides a diverse range of topography, attractions, and activities, spanning from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Blue Ridge Mountains in the west. There are three regions within the state. The upstate is well-known for its picturesque mountain villages and outdoor pursuits. It is centered by the expanding metropolis of Greenville. Lake Murray, a well-liked location for boating and fishing, and the state capital of Columbia are located in the Midlands (Piedmont) region. The coast of South Carolina includes not just resort towns with beaches and golf courses, such as Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island, but also the historic city of Charleston, known for its waterfront historic area, colorful buildings, and cobblestone streets. Taking a traditional road journey from the shore to the highlands is the best way to see it all.
Tales of the South

Throughout the state, South Carolina is rich in American history. The American Civil War began in April 1861 with the firing of the first shots at Fort Sumter, which is located close to Charleston. Visit Camden, the state’s oldest inland city and site of a 1780 Revolutionary War fight, for sightseeing and antique shopping. History fans will also enjoy touring the charming Charleston, which was established in 1670 and was named the #1 City in the World in 2016 as well as the #1 City in the U.S. for five consecutive years by Travel & Leisure. Discover the history and culture of the Gullah people, who originated as African slaves and have inhabited the Lowcountry for a long time. Their unique language and culture have been preserved, and they can be found around the coast.

Food, Delicious Food
It is impossible to visit South Carolina without being hungry. Savor freshly caught fish at a waterfront restaurant, which are many in a state where there are many lakes, rivers, and the ocean at your doorstep. Come enjoy a traditional Lowcountry boil with the locals, which has an abundance of perfectly cooked shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn served in a mound directly on the table. Take care of yourself! Remember to savor the barbecue! Over 200 barbecue restaurants across the state offer four distinct sauce varieties to sample: mustard, vinegar and pepper, light tomato, and heavy tomato.

Beaches and golf for days
With over 350 golf courses, South Carolina is a year-round destination for golfers, so pack your finest clubs. No matter when or where you travel, you’re likely to find a course, although the best greens in the state are mostly found along the ocean. Remarkably, Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Ocean Course is routinely ranked among the best courses in the world and is one of just four courses in the nation to have hosted every major PGA tournament.

In case your ideal getaway resembles a “sandcastle” rather than a “sand trap,” South Carolina provides 301 kilometers of breathtaking coastline. Hilton Head Island is a place where families tend to gather. It has been named Travel & Leisure’s best island in the contiguous United States five times in the last six years, partly due to its abundance of bike routes and serene white sand beaches. Another family favorite is Myrtle Beach, which has reasonably priced lodgings on the beach and fun activities on the boardwalk. Beachgoers who like a more laid-back vibe might visit Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, and Kiawah Island.
